Does anyone know what top French trackies do? If guys like Rousseau and Gane aren't lifting then I'd take that as being pretty conclusive. Bob Schwartz This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Gane aren't lifting then I'd take that as being pretty conclusive. while we all know that track sprinters and kilo riders do an extreme amount of weight training... I seem to remember weight training as a big part of Lance's program (off season) and I believe his coaches too. Dave Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

There is little if any evidence that weight training improves Cycling performance. May I recommend you look at the following sites. http://www-rohan.sdsu.edu/dept/coachsci/mastable.htm Many articles on Specificity and Strength training. Various sports all showing roughly the same conclusion. http://www.sportsci.org/news/traingain/resistance.html An excellent article by a well respected Sports Scientist. John Hawley Bottom line. There is no substitute for on the bike time.

: -And what about people who can't ride much during 3-4 months of winter, : or they want a break from the bike. They are alot of world-class : athletes benefitting from weight training. I doubt they agree with your : studies in a lab. They're more concerned with the most efficient way to : earn their living. If Coggan is correct that weight work is a North American phenomenon, then it's also true that the number of world class cyclists that don't see any point in it far outnumber those that do. Dave Yeah, but I know this guy, not Chris Carmichael, but like, this other guy and he coaches this other guy, and one time, at band camp, he stuck a flute..... He won the some race that nobody in a bicycle racing newsgroup really cared about, but like, this other guy... he said it would work! Scott

The french track racers are definitely lifting. Although it isn't the kind of lifting that most bike riders do. Their program consists mostly of Olympic _style_ lifts, Clean & Jerk, Snatch, Squat, and Dead lift. This comes from the mouth of Daniel Morelon. He also told me that Felicia squats 180 kilos Full squat not half squat.
