I know this subject comes up every now and again here and maybe I should've paid more attention in the past... I've been very busy the past few years between school, job, kids, etc.. and have allowed myself to get badly out-of-shape. At first I thought about finding a local boxing gym but after long look at the few available choices, I've decided to workout at home. I've done it for long periods in the past, so I don't think I'll have the motivational problems so many people fall into with home workout regimens. I'll be doing a lot of cross-training ; bicycling, X-country skiing, (eventually) running etc.. to compliment my workouts. My goals, at least initially, are modest

I built my own speed bag platform, and it's as good as those you'd buy, and for much less. If you'd like, I could take a picture of it (don't know when it'd get developed though) or descibe it to you. It's built like a brick shit house, and does not vibrate like the cheapies do. I don't know how old you are Derrick, but I've noticed, for myself, my heavy bag hurts me much more than I do it. Even jumping rope is a high impact aerobic exercise which I no longer do. It also has the repetitive shoulder motion which can cause injuries after awhile. IMO, the speed bag and shadow boxing (without full extension of your punches) is for ME the best. If you lift weights and build muscle, the extra muscle will burn off additional calories. I think I read that 10 pounds of muscle allows you to eat an extra 200 calories per day. Or something like that. If you want to lose weight, your diet is as, if not more important than your exercise, as it does not take much to eat more than you burn off. I've been told it's best to eat several (many) times throughout the day. That way, your _meta_bolism does not slow down as it does when people go on 'diets'. I try to avoid things such as sweets and bread (and other carbs) when I'm losing weight (which I do less often than I should). If you eat carbs late at night and don't burn them off before you go to sleep, I'm told they turn to fat. Rotsa ruck. TSC posted & mailed

Boxercise also trains the cardiovascular, aerobic and anaerobic systems which provide an all round training session. Aerobic? Yes. Anaerobic? No. Chico
