Typically, one can tell which sense of 'or' is being used by the context in which it is used.  If one sense tangles one up in absudities, the other sense is probably the one intended. OK. Please ask your question again. Are you asking for restaurants that are both vegetarian and health-oriented? Or restaurants that are either vegetarian or health-oriented? In either case, my comment is still that what you choose to eat has more to do with health than the restaurant you eat in. Despite what a recent book says, it's probably possible to eat healthily and eat only vegetables at McDonald's!

Logicians distinguish two senses of the word or : an exclusive sense and an inclusive sense.  And even non-logicians (regular folks) make this distinction.  The exclusive sense of 'or' means one or the other, but not both . Example: if you go into a restaurant and they ask you if you would like soup or salad with your meal, they are usually inviting you to choose one or the other, but not both (exclusive or). Throw in a not and things get yet more confusing.  I was at a class a few weeks back, and one of the exercises had an error in it.  The word de_script_ion of the problem was: If the customer has a product that is not an HRMS product or a CRM product, then [hide fields]. The code to implement this was: if product < HR or    product < CRM then [hide fields] A little logic tells you that the fields are going to get hidden for any value of product.  Even though the word or in the word de_script_ion is perfectly clear, you need to tell the computer that it is an and operator to make this work.

It might interest you to know that a vegeterian place is getting ready to open in Bernal Heights, on Cortland Ave. It's called Geranium, and it still remains to be seen if it will be healthy or delicious. Udupi Palace in Berkeley is an amazing South Indian veg place. There's another location on the South Bay somewhere, someone else would be a better source for South Bay restaurants in general. Amalia

Typically, if one makes an even slightly ambiguous statement on Usenet, someone will decide that of the two or more possible meanings, the intended meaning must have been the most illogical, absurd and offensive of the possible construable interpretations; and then process to rant on that basis that (imaginary) intention.
