free diet CD and Gluten free diet?
Hi there I was wondering if anyone else has tried a gluten-free diet and if it has helped.   I have been diagosed with CD for 2 years. Had a resection 1.5 years ago and since then no flares or problems. All of my problems have been the medications, I tried pred,6mp and imuran and got bad reactions. Was on remicade for the last 6 months and got a really REALLY bad reaction, which my dr called drug induced Lupus, very nasty and am still recovering from it. I decided since conventional medicines were literally killing me to try the natural holistic route. I went to a wellness center and discussed this with the dr there and he has me on a 30-day gluten free diet (no wheat, oats, barley etc). I am also taking zinc, cod liver oil, probiotics, fiber and glutamine. Has anyone taken any of these with any success? The idea I believe is to heal the intestinal lining and restore immune system balance. So my question is has anyone with IBD tried a gluten-free diet? I noticed a lot of similiarity between celiacs and CD. thanks best of health to you rr

Hi there I was wondering if anyone else has tried a gluten-free diet and if it has helped. My son was on a wheat-free (not completely gluten free) diet for three years before he developed his Crohn's. jrw

I would certainly recommend trying a gluten-free diet. Many people who are diagnosed as having CD turn out to have this problem. In my case, it turned out not to be the gluten, but an extremely nasty additive that supermarkets have in their awful bread - aluminosilicate anti-caking agent. I now make my own bread from organic flour of guaranteed quality. When I'm out, I follow a gluten free diet, as you can be sure that commercial products will not use good flour. Flour also finds it's way into all sorts of foods where it has no place being. I've never been better.
