Cassia, what kind of 'bent did you get? DH is eyeballing recumbent tandems for us. Cassia writes: I am very enthusiastic about recumbent bikes. I have a 20 page document explaining alot about them, as well as periodical research going back 5 years. I can give more information to anyone who is interested including _link_s, etc My current (first) is a homebuilt short wheel_base_ recumbent. I got it seven weeks ago. I have jpegs available upon request. It is not my most favourite recumbent design, but is the most practical for my present needs. I have this particular _style_ of recumbent bike for a number of reasons. Economics- If you can scrounge, weld, etc You can custom make a bike for $50 to $100 that is worth $2000. Economics- (the sequel) I can utilize used or inexpensive medium quality standard bike equipment (panniers, racks, shifters, kickstands) Health- Extremely relaxing comfortable ride (more details available) Safety- I am very visible in urban traffic and am at eye height with car drivers. Size- It will fit on a standard cheap bike rack on a sportscar and not stick out. It will also fit inside the same car. Folk Art- I have an absolute love for making a silk purse out of a sow's ear This is rolling folk art and recycling at it's best. Most manufactured recumbent bikes cost between $1300 to $5000 CDN For a tandem recumbent, double or triple that figure. I have rode a homebuilt tandem recumbent. Human Powered Vehicles of Southern Ontario http://www.hpv.on.ca/ HPVSO was founded in 1990 by Dennis Taves as an informal group to share interests in human powered vehicles. The HPVSO Website is run by Bruce Buttimore. The group acts as a central point for sharing information about building, racing and recreational riding of HPVs. The group is also active in educating the public about HPVs by taking part in public rides and events. A newsletter is produced once a year in February. The group has a booth each year at the Toronto International Bicycle Show in February/March where members can chat to the public and display their recumbents, production or homebuilt. There are about 100 active members and 300 on the membership list. If you are interested in joining the group (a $5 voluntary fee may be paid annually to offset printing and mailing costs) please contact Bruce Buttimore.

Cool, Graham, thanks for the _link_. I'm not in the market for a trike myself but these look like nice vehicles. I can't look at these sites for too long for fear I'll sell the house and take off on a year's bike tour. Sort of like going to the airport with your passport and a credit card on you
