Hi, all! I'm 27 weeks pregnant, and for the most part haven't been doing alot of exercise except for walking. It's been a very stressful 3 weeks, the father of the baby dumped me three days before we were to be married and has been totally ignoring me. I've been going crazy not knowing the future I can provide for this little one and hoping my stress doesn't cause any problems for the pregnancy. With all that said, I just have to endorse the exercise video Fit For 2 . Lisa, the instructor in the video, posts often to this newsgroup and is always a help when anybody has a question about exercise. This video is great, I used to do step aerobics before I was pregnant, and I found this video to be very easy to do (her steps aren't too complicated and it's easy to follow). Also, unlike most exercise videos I've seen/done, the music for Fit For 2 really gets you moving. It's dance club music, and when you think you don't have much energy, within the first few minutes you realize you've got more spring in your step than you've had all day. It's also followed by a brief question/answer session with an OB. It's really helped me reduce my stress level, and I'm not exhausted after I finish. And, you don't have to own a step to do this video, you can also just do the steps like you're in a regular aerobics class. Just to be clear, I'm in no way associated with this video, other than purchasing and really liking it. Lisa can be reached at

Good luck to all the other expectant mommies and daddies in this newsgroup! I was interested to see this because Shape's magazine for pregnant women (sorry, forgot the name) gave this a very poor review- I am not much of an aerobics type anyway so I haven't gotten any videos so far- but if I had, that one was out of consideration, _base_d on that evaluation. Maybe I should take their ratings with a grain of salt. I'm curious as to whether your opinion is typical. Anyway, if it works on the level of stress you must be feeling, it must be a good thing. Good luck and I hope everything works out for you. Laurel

I just had to respond to the post regarding Shape magazine's review of my video. Not to sound too much like sour grapes, I'd just like to point out a couple of things. First of all, the reviewer of my video also reviewed 8 other pregnancy videos, three of which she was involved in the production (could she be a little biased?) and gave 4 1/2 or 5 stars. Three of the other videos reviewed were produced by regular advertisers in Shape and were also given top ratings. The other three videos reviewed, including the Fit For 2 video, were produced by small, independent producers and were given very poor ratings. When I questioned Shape and the reviewer on this matter, I received no response from either the editor or the reviewer. I later found out that Shape has been sued by another video producer on a similar matter. Again, not to sound too much like sour grapes, I advise anyone looking to magazines for information to question the source of that information. Just be a discriminating reader! Thanks for letting me vent! Lisa

Shape's Fit Pregnancy rated Kathy Smith's video the highest, so it's the one I purchased. I really liked it a lot. I think it all depends on what you're looking for in a video and your fitness level going in. Mary Mom to Nicholas (12/21/92) and Babycakes (due 8/1/95)

I think it all depends on what you're looking for in a video and your fitness level going in. Mary Mom to Nicholas (12/21/92) and Babycakes (due 8/1/95) I was in pretty good shape going into my pregnancy, I was running 6 miles a day for 6 days a week. I bought Kathy Smiths preg. tape in the beginning of my pregnancy and thought it was pretty wimpy. Now, at 38 weeks, I find its about all I can do!! I basically used my old step bench videos and aerobic tapes (low impact though) through most of my pregnany but the kakathy smith tape is great now and would probably be very good for those not used to exercising. andrea
