Hello, I a 23 years old guy with a weight problem. I am 1.67 m tall but only 43 kg. I have consult doctors before but they all say that there is nothing wrong with me except underweight. I do try to eat more but my weight never gain since secondary 4. I have seem some health outlets such as GNC and Nature's Farm selling mass/weight gainer pills or powder that cost aroung $100 or more for 1 LARGE bottle. Anyone out there there try one of these products before. And are there effective and how long will I start gaining weight? And also is the weight gain permanent or do I need to continue consuming the mass gainer to maintain my new weight? Please do recommend which brand should I buy. Please reply email to me as I rarely go to newsgroups. Thank you. There is a standard chart that gives you a guide as to a person ideal weight range w.r.t the age and also to the height. Assume you are out of the range in terms of under-weight that your docotr had mentioned, then there is need for you make up the shortfall. I suppose you should have a good breakfast such as having a glass of milk ( unskimmed ) and host of fruits and wholesome bread  and eggs. Many school children who were under-weight were given these stuffs to bring home if their family could not afford them. Do not take those gassy drinks as they dehyrate your body water content. You can eat all the fast food as you want but the cholorestoral level in those foods do not necessarily help you to put on weight except putting on more fats in your arteries than needed - so moderate it if you can. More fat coated meat does equate more fat in your body but more chorestoral fat trappings in your arteries instead. Have a guinness stout or red wine from time to time as it helps increase your _meta_bolisms in the body. Forget about beer as it dehydrate your body. Although wine and stout have higher alcohol amount which dehydrate a person but small quantity help to rejuvenate the system which enables the body to stretch back from the stressss it takes from your intake. Have a healthy meals and a full meal is most important. Minimise herbal food as it might interfere your growth in your growing up . Have enough of rest. Often not enough of sleeps and not sleeping according the body clock are some causes of growing problem. Reduce your worries and keep your mind stress free. Go for more exercise as it help you to have more appetite to eat more. Go for some gyms kinds of workouts but don't overload yourself with it. Eat more means eating more good foods and a balance diet of all types.Have enough of vitamins to support your intake of food. Have some biscuits during breaks as itensures there is no lack of food intake. Ensure you do not have constipation problem. What goes in must come out. A regular toilletting and timing is sign of good constipation. If you have irregular toiletting at different time of the day, then your body system is seened to be out of sync. Buy some Fibrogel orange pack - they are high fibre orange drink to help soften the stool in oder to overcome constipation problem. It is widely and recommended by doctors in colorectal dept. If you intake so much and yet very little comes out, then there is casue for concern which means that there is worms a parasite worms hiding inside your intestines sucking up your stuffs. Check with a doctor who might prescribe you with some liquid to take in order to flush out the worms from your intestines. Believe me, you might find the worms in your stools. I do not profess to be an expert but these are things which I believe would help to develop the body. However, everything depends on the person _meta_bolisms which are gene factors that develops the body. I have a girl friend who will get fat if she take an extra meal . Her coctor says that her body _meta_bolism is susceptable to growing fat
